Private Garden in Belgravia London

A complex of garden areas in a private residential premise.

A private garden consists of separated garden areas. It is relatively a small garden. However, the design create perspective and making the space look bigger. The Courtyard garden is a ‘Kare-san‐sui’ Dry Stone Garden representing deep far away mountains and valleys. The stone arrangement in the centre represents the island of Mount Hōrai. There are horizontal figures such as arched stone bridges and horizontal stones arranged across these vertical figured such as stones and trees.

The roof garden represents a ‘Roji’ Tea Garden with the ‘tsukubai 2 at the centre. The water basin here is a frog, and is considered to be a symbol protecting people from harm. Water pours gently through a bamboo pipe into the frog basin, so you can enjoy listening to the sound of the running water, seeing the ripples in the basin, and watching the water as it trickles out.
